How to read CryptoSentiment data
Price, the Attention Interest Oscillator and social media discussion measure different things. Keeping that distinction in mind makes the comparisons more useful.
Reading the Attention Interest Oscillator
The Attention Interest Oscillator (AIO) is CryptoSentiment’s proprietary indicator. Select a keyword to explore its readings alongside an asset’s price history. The chart offers raw, Z-score and EMA views, so you can inspect the index, compare it with a recent baseline or smooth short-term variation.
What the transforms do
A rolling Z-score subtracts the window's mean from the current reading and divides by its population standard deviation. A value of two is two standard deviations above that mean. The window is a number of observations, so its time span depends on the interval. Optional log processing reduces the influence of large peaks; an EMA smooths the series with more weight on recent readings.
How composites fit together
A composite is a weighted average of selected keyword readings at matching timestamps. It inherits the coverage and limitations of its component series. Changing a weight changes the question you are asking of the data, rather than creating new observations.
Discussion adds another perspective
HiveMind uses social media discussion to organize themes and summaries. Coverage is not a complete account of public opinion, and summaries can miss context. The homepage uses recorded market data and clearly labeled illustrative discussion and alert examples. Those examples are not a live feed.
